Actors Guild Seeks Support For Maiden African Children's Film Festival
The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has called on governments, corporate organisations, development partners and other stakeholders to support the maiden edition of the African Children's Film Festival (ACFF) 2026, an initiative aimed at nurturing young filmmakers across the continent.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, AGN National President Abubakar Yakubu described the festival as a platform to discover, mentor and showcase the creative talents of African children while promoting the continent's rich cultural heritage and values.
Yakubu stressed the importance of guiding children to tell authentic African stories instead of imitating inappropriate content often found on social media.
According to him, the festival is designed to educate, inspire and entertain, while helping to shape the future of Africa's film industry through investment in young creative talents.
He appealed to governments, ministries, agencies, non-governmental organisations and private sector partners to support the initiative through sponsorships and strategic partnerships.
Also speaking, the festival's director, Beth Ogbuefi, described the African Children's Film Festival as a movement dedicated to placing children at the heart of storytelling and cultural expression.
She said the 2026 edition, themed "Our Stories, Our Lens, Our Voices," is open to children of African heritage between the ages of five and 18.
According to Ogbuefi, African children are not merely audiences but creative storytellers whose unique perspectives deserve global recognition.
