ADC Demands Investigation Of Nafiu Bala After INEC Rejects Portal Access Claim
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for the investigation and possible prosecution of its former factional national chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) dismissed his claim that he had accessed the commission's candidate nomination portal and uploaded candidates for the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said INEC's confirmation that the document circulated by Bala was forged had transformed the matter from an internal political disagreement into a serious issue that could undermine public trust in Nigeria's electoral system.
The party urged INEC to refer the case to relevant law enforcement agencies, arguing that falsely claiming access to the commission's restricted nomination platform and presenting forged documents threatens the integrity and credibility of the electoral process.
According to the ADC, allowing such allegations to go unchallenged could weaken public confidence in elections, create unnecessary political tension, and raise doubts about the security of INEC's systems.
The party maintained that anyone responsible for creating or circulating the alleged false claims should be investigated and prosecuted in line with the law.
ADC also stressed that the case goes beyond party politics, describing it as a test of the country's commitment to protecting public institutions and upholding the rule of law. It warned that failure to act decisively could encourage similar actions in the future, potentially creating confusion and undermining confidence in Nigeria's democratic process.
Reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles and peaceful political competition, the party expressed confidence that the appropriate authorities would take necessary steps to safeguard the integrity of the electoral system.
