Chris Brown Gets Eight-Month Suspended Jail Sentence Over Bottle Attack
US singer Chris Brown has been handed an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, over a bottle attack on music producer Abe Diaw at a London nightclub in 2023.
The 37-year-old singer was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court alongside his co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, 40, after both pleaded guilty to affray in July. Neither man will serve immediate jail time.
Akinlolu received a four-month suspended sentence for his role in the incident.
During sentencing, Judge Tony Baumgartner reviewed CCTV footage showing Brown repeatedly striking Diaw with a tequila bottle, including blows to the head. The judge described the use of the bottle as plainly dangerous.
The court heard that the defendants pursued Diaw after he attempted to move away from the confrontation. Although the incident lasted no more than 20 seconds and was not planned, the judge said the violence was intense and particularly dangerous because it occurred in a crowded, confined space.
Diaw required hospital treatment for injuries to his head and knee following the assault.
Both defendants were also ordered to pay £1,500 each towards prosecution costs. The judge emphasised that the suspended sentences remained a form of punishment.
