Portable: No Nigerian Artiste Can Win Grammy Without Collaborating With Me
Controversial Nigerian street-pop singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has declared that no Nigerian artiste can win a Grammy Award without featuring him on a song.
Speaking during an appearance on Rubbin' Minds on Channels Television, the singer described himself as a major force in the country's music industry and claimed that collaborating with him is essential for any artiste aiming for Grammy success.
"If any artiste wants to collect Grammy in this Nigeria, if you don't feature me, you'd not collect Grammy. If you want to collect a Grammy nomination, come and feature me. I am the new face—the newborn Fela," Portable said.
The singer also maintained that his unique musical style has inspired many upcoming artistes, claiming he now has thousands of imitators.
"See my style. I have lookalike, like thousand look alike. Even many people are looking up to me," he added.
Beyond music, Portable highlighted his growing involvement in celebrity boxing, insisting he has played a significant role in promoting the sport in Nigeria.
According to him, his influence has translated into lucrative earnings, making him one of the country's highest-paid celebrity boxers.
He questioned whether any boxer in Nigeria had earned more than ₦100 million, attributing his success to what he described as grace and superstar status.
Portable is set to return to the ring on July 31 when he faces actor Charles Okocha in a rematch tagged "Unfinished Business" at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
