Abuja Half Marathon: Winner to Pocket $8,000 as Organisers Unveil Prize Money
The winner of the elite category at the 2026 PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon will pocket $8,000 when the 21-kilometre race holds on November 14 in Abuja.

Organisers have unveiled the prize money for both elite and Nigerian athletes, with the competition expected to attract local and international long-distance runners.

The elite category offers $8,000 to the winner, $6,000 to the runner-up and $5,000 to the third-place finisher. Athletes finishing fourth and fifth will earn $4,000 and $3,000 respectively, while those placing sixth, seventh and eighth will receive $2,000, $1,000 and $500.

In the Nigerian category, the winner will earn ₦2 million, with ₦1.5 million and ₦1 million going to the second- and third-placed athletes respectively.

Other Nigerian finishers will receive ₦500,000 for fourth place, ₦300,000 for fifth, ₦200,000 for sixth, ₦100,000 for seventh and ₦50,000 for eighth.

The organisers said the prize structure reflected PremiumTrust Bank’s commitment to promoting athletics and providing local runners with incentives to compete at a higher level.

The separate Nigerian category is designed to reward home-based athletes while giving them an opportunity to test their abilities against international opposition.

The race is expected to attract elite athletes, running clubs, corporate teams and fitness enthusiasts from Nigeria and beyond.

Organisers said preparations were ongoing to ensure adequate timing, security, medical support and traffic management, while urging interested runners to register through the official race portal ahead of the event.
