Anani Calls for Commitment, Fairness, Mentorship, Synergy Among Women Leaders
The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Edo State, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has called on women leaders across the State to demonstrate greater commitment, fairness, mentorship, and unity in advancing effective leadership and grassroots development.
Mrs. Anani made the call during an engagement with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) women’s wing at the Government House in Benin City.
Addressing the State Women Leader, her deputy, women leaders of the three senatorial districts, and women leaders as well as their deputies from the 18 local government areas (LGAs), the Coordinator stressed that effective leadership goes beyond financial support to requiring availability, dedication, integrity, and hard work. She underscored the importance of intentionally mentoring younger women, describing them as critical to grassroots mobilisation and the future of political leadership in the State.
Expressing concerns over the low representation of women in elective positions, Mrs. Anani advocated stronger unity among women and collective support for female aspirants. She also called for legislative backing to strengthen the implementation of the 35 per cent Affirmative Action policy.
The Coordinator also emphasised the need for strong synergy between women leaders and their deputies, describing their relationship as a model of sisterhood that is essential for political growth, organisational effectiveness, and improved service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the women leaders, the APC State Women Leader, Lady Betty Okoebor, commended the leadership of the Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo and Mrs. Anani, noting that the administration's SHINE Agenda complements the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. She described APC women as the backbone of grassroots mobilisation and appealed for greater recognition of their contributions and sacrifices in strengthening the Party across the State.
Lady Okoebor also requested dedicated support for women leaders and their deputies in the 18 LGAs to enable them to coordinate party activities more effectively at the grassroots. She appealed for increased empowerment programmes for women and youths through skills development, training, and access to opportunities.
The State Women Leader also advocated the deliberate inclusion of educated young women in government appointments, urging the government to consider qualified women for positions such as Secretaries to local governments and local government advisers. According to her, many women possess the academic qualifications, competence, and leadership capacity required to contribute meaningfully to governance and the development of Edo State.
