'Anti-Juventus Clause' Derails Osimhen Move To Turin
Juventus' hopes of signing Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen have suffered a major setback after reports revealed that a contractual clause prevents the Italian giants from pursuing the Nigerian forward.
Osimhen, who joined Turkish champions Galatasaray permanently for a club-record €75 million last summer after an initial loan spell, has continued to attract interest from several top European clubs following his impressive form. The 27-year-old has scored 59 goals in 74 appearances for the Istanbul club.
Premier League sides Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Arsenal have all been linked with the prolific striker, while Barcelona have reportedly cooled their interest.
Juventus had identified Osimhen as a replacement for Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic, who left the club after failing to agree a new contract. However, the Bianconeri's pursuit has reportedly been blocked by an "anti-Juventus" clause inserted by Napoli when they sold Osimhen to Galatasaray.
According to reports from Italian outlet TalkJuve, the agreement between Napoli and Galatasaray prevents the Turkish champions from selling Osimhen directly to Juventus. The clause was included due to the fierce rivalry between Napoli and the Turin-based club.
The restriction also ends hopes of a reunion between Osimhen and Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti, under whom the Nigerian enjoyed the most successful spell of his career.
The pair guided Napoli to the 2022/23 Serie A title, ending the club's 33-year wait for the Scudetto, with Osimhen finishing as the league's top striker and Player of the Year.
While Juventus are believed to have the financial capacity to meet Galatasaray's valuation, the contractual restriction leaves them unable to negotiate a direct transfer.
