APC Dismisses Alleged Plot To Assassinate Atiku Ahead Of 2027 Elections
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has dismissed allegations of a plot to assassinate former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the claims as baseless and politically motivated.

The council’s spokesman, Dele Alake, denied any involvement by President Bola Tinubu, the Presidency or the ruling party in an alleged plan to target Atiku or other opposition figures.

Alake was reacting to the allegation by Timi Frank, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), under which Atiku is expected to contest the 2027 presidential election.

He challenged Frank to present any evidence backing his claims to the relevant law enforcement agencies for investigation.

The APC campaign council also dismissed reports that security personnel assigned to Atiku had been withdrawn, insisting that the former vice president remained under the protection of the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to Alake, Tinubu had directed security agencies to strengthen protection for candidates contesting presidential, vice-presidential, governorship and deputy governorship positions ahead of the elections.

He accused those spreading the allegation of attempting to heighten political tension and attract international attention, describing the claims as “typical opposition rabble-rousing.”

The spokesman urged political parties and their supporters to avoid inflammatory statements and focus on issues affecting Nigerians.

“Let our political competition be peaceful, lawful, and focused on the big issues that matter to Nigerians, not character assassination or wild, baseless allegations,” he said.

The council called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to uphold peaceful democratic engagement as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
