Bandits Abduct Kebbi High Court Judge From Residence
Suspected bandits have abducted a Kebbi State High Court judge, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, shortly after the judge returned from a trip to Sokoto.
According to sources, the armed assailants stormed his home along Zogirma Road, fired several gunshots to scare residents, and whisked him away.
A source familiar with the incident said no member of the judge's household was harmed during the attack. The matter was immediately reported to security agencies and the leadership of the Kebbi State High Court.
Confirming the abduction, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Bashir Usman, said the judge was kidnapped around midnight. He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Umar Muhammad Hadejia, had deployed tactical and intelligence teams to track down the kidnappers and secure the judge's safe release.
According to the police, security operatives are combing identified hideouts and surrounding forest areas as part of the rescue operation.
A senior High Court official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the incident as a disturbing development for the judiciary, adding that court management had met with security agencies to coordinate efforts aimed at ensuring the judge's immediate rescue.
As of the time of filing this report, no individual or group had claimed responsibility for the abduction, while security agencies continue efforts to rescue the judge unharmed.
