BREAKING: Suspected Ebola Index Patient Reportedly Evacuated From Nigeria
A woman identified in a media report as Nigeria’s suspected Ebola index patient has reportedly been evacuated from the country aboard a medical evacuation aircraft, amid growing concerns over the handling of the outbreak.
According to ARISE News, the evacuation reportedly took place early Monday at the private jet terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The woman, described in the report as the wife of a Swiss diplomat in Nigeria, was said to have been scheduled for evacuation at about 6 a.m.
ARISE News reported that its crew observed a convoy of ambulances and diplomatic vehicles arriving at the airport, while officials reportedly restricted access to the private wing during the operation.
The media outlet also said it obtained footage showing a medical evacuation aircraft and its crew preparing for the operation.
A source reportedly indicated that the Federal Government intended to announce the evacuation only after the aircraft had departed Nigerian airspace.
However, the patient’s identity, destination, medical condition and the circumstances surrounding the reported evacuation remain unconfirmed.
As of the time of filing this report, no official confirmation from the Federal Government or relevant health authorities had been provided in the report.
The reported evacuation has raised fresh questions about transparency and the government’s management of the Ebola situation.
