CAF Doubles WAFCON 2026 Winners’ Prize To $2 Million
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in prize money for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with the tournament winners set to receive a record $2 million.

The new winners' prize represents a 100 per cent increase from the $1 million earned by Nigeria's Super Falcons after winning their record-extending 10th WAFCON title at the previous edition.

CAF also confirmed that the tournament's overall prize fund has risen by 67 per cent, increasing from $3.475 million to $5.8 million as part of its continued investment in women's football across Africa.

Under the revised prize structure, the runners-up will receive $750,000, marking a 50 per cent increase, while the third-placed team will earn 43 per cent more than in the previous tournament.

Each of the 16 participating nations will also receive $150,000 in participation funding, up from $125,000, representing a 20 per cent increase.

CAF highlighted the rapid growth in financial support for the competition under its current leadership.

Since the administration assumed office, the champions' prize has increased by 900 per cent, from $200,000 to $2 million, while the overall prize pool has grown by 495 per cent, from $975,000 to $5.8 million.

The governing body also noted the expansion of the tournament from 12 to 16 teams, describing it as part of its commitment to accelerating the development of women's football on the continent.

The 2026 WAFCON finals will be hosted by Morocco from July 26 to August 16, with defending champions Nigeria's Super Falcons aiming to retain their continental crown and claim the record prize money.
