Champions League: Bayern Face Arsenal Without Olise in Crucial Title Test
Bayern Munich face a major test of their UEFA Champions League ambitions when they host English champions Arsenal on Wednesday, with in-form winger Michael Olise suspended for the high-profile showdown.

Olise will miss the encounter after being sent off in Bayern’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Viking last week, leaving the German giants without one of their most influential attacking players ahead of a potentially decisive European clash.

The London-born winger, who came through Arsenal’s junior system, received two yellow cards within a minute after first being booked for a foul before reacting angrily to verbal provocation from Viking captain Zlatko Tripic by throwing the ball at his head.

The dismissal marked the first red card of Olise’s career and comes at an inconvenient time for Bayern, given his outstanding form this season.

The former Crystal Palace star has recorded nine goals and five assists in 10 appearances across all competitions, establishing himself as a key figure in Bayern’s attacking setup after an impressive previous campaign that propelled him into Ballon d’Or discussions.

With Jamal Musiala struggling with injury and illness, while Serge Gnabry and Lennart Karl have yet to hit top form, Olise and England captain Harry Kane have carried much of Bayern’s attacking responsibility.

Kane has also registered nine goals and six assists in 10 matches. The striker was instrumental in Bayern’s recovery from a two-goal deficit against Viking, scoring twice and providing an assist to rescue a 3-3 draw.

Speaking after Bayern’s emphatic 6-1 Bundesliga victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday, Kane acknowledged the importance of Olise but challenged the rest of the squad to seize their opportunity.

“Missing one of your biggest players, you’re going to feel it for sure, but that’s where other people have to step up and show they can take their opportunity,” Kane said.

Bayern will hope Luis Diaz can build on his impressive display against Leipzig, where the Colombian scored a hat-trick and supplied an assist in one of his strongest performances since joining from Liverpool in 2025.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker is familiar with Arsenal, having faced the Gunners in previous Champions League campaigns. Bayern edged past the north London club in the 2023/24 quarter-finals but suffered a 3-1 defeat in last season’s league phase.

Arsenal, meanwhile, arrive in Germany in impressive form, having won 10 of their 11 matches across all competitions. Mikel Arteta’s side will be eager to maintain that momentum as they continue their pursuit of European glory after last season’s painful penalty shootout defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite Olise’s absence, Kane believes Bayern have the quality and home advantage to make Wednesday’s encounter a memorable occasion.

“It’s a big game and we’re playing against one of the best teams in Europe, you have to always enjoy these occasions,” he said.

“We’re testing ourselves against one of the best, we’re here at home, the energy, the fans, it’s going to be a special night.”

With Arsenal’s strong start and Bayern’s formidable attacking options, Wednesday’s showdown promises to be a major examination of both sides’ Champions League credentials.
