Edo Diaspora Agency Assures Residents Of More Free Healthcare Outreachs

The Edo State Diaspora Agency (ESDA) has assured residents that free medical outreach programmes will become more frequent following the success of its week-long healthcare mission in Uhunmwonde and Oredo local government areas.
The Director-General (DG) of the Agency, Dr. Lauretta Oduware Ogboro-Okor, gave the assurance during a free healthcare outreach held at the Oredo Local Government Council Secretariat in Benin City. She said the overwhelming turnout and positive impact of the outreach would encourage Edo indigenes in the diaspora, who funded the initiative, to sustain their support for residents in the State.
Dr. Ogboro-Okor attributed the successful execution of the programme to the support and enabling environment provided by the Edo State Government, which facilitated the smooth delivery of healthcare services to beneficiaries. She also commended Nurses Across The Borders (NAB) and the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Europe (NIDOE) for partnering with the Agency to provide quality medical care to residents.
According to Dr. Ogboro-Okor, the outreach extended beyond routine medical consultations, offering treatment for a wide range of health conditions. She explained that patients requiring specialised care were referred to the Edo Specialist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The DG disclosed that the Agency has several programmes lined up to benefit residents, including a skills acquisition initiative scheduled to hold during the 2026 Nigeria Diaspora Week.
At the event, the Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council, Engr. Gabriel Iduseri, commended members of the Edo diaspora for their generosity and unwavering commitment to improving healthcare delivery in the State. He assured that the council would continue to support similar interventions, noting that the Edo State Government has empowered all 18 local government councils to implement programmes that directly improve the welfare of residents.
Beneficiaries of the outreach expressed appreciation for the free medical services, describing the intervention as timely, impactful and life-changing. They offered prayers for the Edo diaspora community, the Edo State Government and all partner organisations that contributed to the success of the programme.
