Eguavoen Gets Three Assistants For Super Falcons’ Olympic Qualifiers
Former Super Eagles head coach Augustine Eguavoen has been handed a three-man support team as he leads the Super Falcons into their 2028 Los Angeles Olympic qualifying campaign against Comoros.

Eguavoen, appointed on an interim basis by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), will be assisted by Christopher Danjuma, Ayisat Yusuf and former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Olatunji Baruwa.

The former Nigeria international takes charge of the Falcons as the NFF continues its search for a substantive head coach following the team’s disappointing campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Danjuma, who is the head coach of Nasarawa Amazons, brings considerable experience in women’s football, having previously guided the Falconets at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Yusuf, a former Super Falcons defender who earned 68 international caps, featured in four Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, three FIFA Women’s World Cups and the 2008 Olympic Games.

Baruwa, meanwhile, will oversee the goalkeepers, having previously worked with several of Nigeria’s national teams.

Eguavoen’s wider backroom staff includes team administrator Oboduku Mary Bose, team doctor Garba Larai Hyedima, physiotherapists Nwachukwu Adaku and Onah Melody Chimkwesiri, analyst Dr Terry Eguaoje, safeguarding officer Ann Okoro, coordinator Falokun Folashade Elizabeth, security officer Ulam Juliana Akaso, media officer Shima Seember Brenda and equipment manager Lovina Emmanuel.

Falcons Face Comoros in Double-Header

Nigeria, ranked 36th in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking, received a second-round bye as one of Africa’s three highest-ranked teams, while Comoros are ranked 187th.

The Falcons will be desperate to secure Olympic qualification after failing to qualify for the 2028 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be hosted by Brazil.

Eguavoen has assembled a 28-player squad for the qualifiers, with captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Asisat Oshoala, Michelle Alozie and Ashleigh Plumptre among the key names. Six players from the Falconets are also included.

Comoros, however, will arrive with confidence after demolishing Sudan 30-0 on aggregate in the previous round, winning the first leg 17-0 before completing the rout with a 13-0 victory in the return fixture.

Both legs of the Nigeria-Comoros tie will be played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo on October 9 and 13, with Comoros unable to host at a CAF-approved venue.

Nigeria must navigate five qualifying rounds to secure one of Africa’s two available places at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
