End Of Tenure: 'I Have No Regrets' — Former Akoko-Edo Councillor Ogogo Bows Out, Defends Stand On Rule Of Law

The Chairman, House Committee on Works of the 13th Akoko-Edo Local Government Legislative Arm and Councillor representing Ward 3, Hon. Bamidele Cyprian Ogogo, has officially concluded his constitutional tenure, declaring that he leaves office with "a clear conscience" despite what he described as his unlawful removal from office during his tenure.

In a Special Appreciation Message issued on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, to commemorate the end of his three-year mandate, Ogogo expressed profound gratitude to the people of Ward 3, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area and Edo State for the opportunity to serve.

According to him, "Today, 4th August 2026, marks the completion of the three-year mandate that you freely entrusted to me through the ballot. By virtue of the Certificate of Return issued by the electoral body, my tenure as your elected representative expires at 12:00 midnight today."

The former lawmaker attributed the successful completion of his tenure to God's grace, saying he remained committed to justice, accountability, good governance and the welfare of his constituents throughout his period in office.

Reflecting on one of the defining moments of his political career, Ogogo maintained that he was removed from office because he refused to participate in what he described as an unconstitutional attempt to impeach the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Akoko-Edo Local Government Council.

He stated that his decision was informed by a Supreme Court judgment affirming constitutional safeguards for democratically elected local government officials.

"I have absolutely no regrets. History will always favour those who choose principle over convenience and integrity over political expediency. Leadership is not merely about occupying public office; it is about defending what is right, even when doing so comes at great personal and political cost," he said.

The former councillor and Chairman of Lampese Okpafest 2026 further declared that he was leaving office fulfilled.

"As I conclude this chapter of public service, I do so with a clear conscience, a fulfilled heart, and the satisfaction of knowing that I remained faithful to the mandate of the people and to the democratic ideals upon which our nation is built," he added.

Ogogo used the occasion to thank former Governor Godwin Obaseki, former Deputy Governor Omobayo Marvellous, former Akoko-Edo Liaison Officer Hon. Jeffrey Obasanmi, the Oselo of Okpameri Nation, Senior High Chief Aimanerimi Victor Arogunyo, former Deputy Speaker Prince Idaiyi Yekini, former Commissioner Hon. Christabel Eremah O. Ekwu, former Ward 3 Councillor Hon. Bolaji Kenneth, community leaders, the People's Democratic Party (PDP), political associates, friends and supporters for standing by him throughout his political journey.

He also reserved special appreciation for his wife, Mrs. Josephine Bamidele Cyprian Ogogo, describing her as a pillar of strength whose prayers, patience and unwavering support sustained him through both triumphs and challenges.

Although his tenure has ended, Ogogo assured the people that his commitment to public service remains undiminished.

"Public office may have a tenure, but service to humanity has no expiration date. I shall continue to contribute my quota to the growth, peace, unity, and progress of Ward 3, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Edo State, and our beloved nation whenever duty calls," he affirmed.

He concluded by praying for God's blessings upon Ward 3, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Edo State and Nigeria, while expressing optimism that another chapter of public service lies ahead.
