Father Arrested For Allegedly Burning Daughter's Private Part With Hot Iron Over Bedwetting
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Amos Paul, for allegedly burning the private part of his 10-year-old daughter with a hot pressing iron as punishment for bedwetting.
The incident reportedly occurred in Unaun, Upenme, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State and was reported to the police on Thursday.
According to the Command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the child suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owo, where she is receiving medical treatment.
Police detectives attached to the 'A' Division in Owo responded swiftly to the report, visited the scene and arrested the suspect.
The case has since been transferred to the Gender Unit of the Command for further investigation and necessary legal action.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, condemned the alleged act, describing it as "cruel, inhumane and completely unacceptable."
He reaffirmed the Command's commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons from abuse, violence and exploitation, stressing that anyone found guilty would face the full weight of the law.
The commissioner also urged members of the public to promptly report cases of child abuse, domestic violence and related offences to the nearest police station, assuring that justice would be pursued for victims.
Police said investigations are ongoing, while the suspect remains in custody pending the outcome of the probe.
