FIFA U-20 WWC: ‘We Didn’t Show Up’ — Aduku Laments Falconets’ Defeat To Spain
Nigeria’s Falconets head coach, Moses Aduku, has admitted that his team failed to turn up as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Spain in their opening Group F clash at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
The reigning European champions dominated proceedings and secured victory with a goal in each half, as Marisa Garcia and Alba Cerrato found the net to hand Spain all three points.
Reacting to the disappointing result, Aduku expressed frustration with his players’ performance but insisted that Nigeria can still recover from the setback.
“We did not come to the party today; we did not play,” Aduku said in an interview with FIFA.com.
Despite the defeat, the coach remains confident that the Falconets will advance to the knockout stage, stressing that there are still two group matches left to redeem their campaign.
“But all the same, we have two more games to play; we will get it right. Of course, we are going to go through [to the knockout rounds].
“I am confident. We did not play today.”
The defeat leaves Nigeria with little room for complacency in Group F as they prepare for their second group fixture against China PR on Thursday, September 10.
The Falconets will need a much-improved performance against the Chinese side to revive their hopes of progressing to the knockout rounds.
