Football Bigger Than Afrobeats, Nollywood Combined – Sports Consultant
International sports consultant and communications expert Emeka Enyadike has described football as Nigeria's most influential entertainment industry, saying its global audience, economic impact and commercial value exceed those of Afrobeats and Nollywood combined.
Enyadike, who is the Chief Executive Officer of EEXsports, made the remarks during a FIFA World Cup viewing event at the Atlantic Blue Hotel and Resort in Abuja. He said football remains the world's biggest sporting spectacle, bringing together millions of fans across different cultures while creating vast business opportunities.
According to him, the presence of global music stars such as Burna Boy, Shakira and Justin Bieber at FIFA World Cup events highlights football's enormous appeal rather than overshadowing it.
"People celebrate Afrobeats and Nollywood, but football is even bigger. Fans tune in because of football, while the entertainers are part of the spectacle. That shows the industry's unmatched global reach and commercial potential," Enyadike said.
He urged Nigeria to embrace sports as a major economic sector capable of generating jobs, attracting investment and contributing significantly to national development.
Enyadike also noted that Nigerians have remained passionate about the ongoing FIFA World Cup despite the Super Eagles' failure to qualify, with thousands still gathering to watch matches involving teams such as Spain and Argentina.
Speaking on the vision behind EEXsports, he explained that the organisation was created to bridge knowledge gaps in Nigeria's sports industry by mentoring young professionals in sports journalism, broadcasting and sports business.
He added that EEXsports would continue to connect industry experts with aspiring professionals while encouraging collaboration between the public and private sectors to unlock the country's vast sports economy.
