Former Adult Film Actress Sworn In As Colombian Senator
Former adult film actress Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz has officially taken office as a senator in Colombia after winning a seat in the country's March parliamentary elections.
Known professionally as Amaranta Hank, Omaña secured a place in the Senate on the platform of the left-wing Historic Pact coalition, where she campaigned for greater rights, legal protections and recognition for workers in the adult entertainment industry.
She will represent the Norte de Santander region during the 2026–2030 legislative term after emerging 23rd on the coalition's closed Senate list.
According to official election figures, the Historic Pact received more than 4.4 million votes, representing 22.72 percent of the national Senate vote, making it the strongest political force in Colombia's upper chamber with 25 seats.
Before entering politics, Omaña worked as a journalist before transitioning into the adult entertainment industry. She has repeatedly insisted that her previous career should not define her ability to serve in public office.
She argues that people who have worked in the sex industry deserve equal rights and legal recognition, saying their contributions to the country's economy should not be ignored.
Responding to critics questioning her eligibility for elected office, Omaña said every citizen should have the opportunity to participate in politics regardless of their professional background.
Beyond advocating for the rights of adult industry workers, the newly sworn-in senator says she will prioritise legislation on mental health, gender issues and the fight against sexual abuse.
Her inauguration comes months after she and fellow former adult performer Juan Carlos Florián were appointed to senior positions in Colombia's Ministry of Equality, appointments that generated widespread public debate within President Gustavo Petro's administration.
