FRSC To Skip Edo LG Poll Over No Invitation
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Edo State Sector Command, has announced that it will not participate in Saturday's local government election because it did not receive an official invitation from the relevant election stakeholders.
The Edo State Sector Commander, Mr. Preye Bedford, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Benin City.
According to him, the command was excluded from the election arrangements due to the absence of a formal invitation.
"My command is not involved. Well, we weren't invited," Bedford said.
On the planned 12-hour restriction of movement from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on election day, Bedford explained that the FRSC would suspend its routine operations and first assess the situation before determining whether any traffic management intervention would be necessary.
"We will only assess the situation before we know what to do," he added.
The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has cleared 12 political parties to participate in the local government elections across the state's 18 local government areas.
The FRSC's absence means traffic management responsibilities during the election may largely fall to other security agencies deployed for the exercise.
