Fury Stops Wach, Moves Closer To Anthony Joshua Showdown
Tyson Fury moved a step closer to a long-anticipated heavyweight showdown with Anthony Joshua after defeating Poland's Mariusz Wach by technical knockout in Pattaya, Thailand, on Friday.
The 37-year-old former two-time world heavyweight champion dominated the contest from the opening bell, gradually wearing down the experienced 46-year-old Wach before the Polish boxer's corner stopped the fight in the seventh round.
The bout, staged before about 1,500 spectators, marked Fury's second victory of the year as he continues his comeback following a 16-month absence from boxing.
Attention now shifts to Anthony Joshua, who is scheduled to face Albania's Kristian Prenga in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday. A victory for Joshua, widely tipped by observers, would pave the way for a long-awaited all-British heavyweight clash with Fury.
Joshua will be making his first professional appearance since surviving a car crash in Nigeria in December that claimed the lives of two of his close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.
