Glasgow 2026: Tinubu Hails Team Nigeria's Impressive Commonwealth Games Campaign
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Team Nigeria for finishing as Africa's highest-ranked nation and seventh overall at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Nigeria ended the Games with an impressive haul of 24 medals comprising 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze, a performance President Tinubu described as a reflection of the athletes' hard work, dedication and perseverance.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the President praised Team Nigeria for representing the country with honour, dignity and pride throughout the competition.

He said the experience gained in Glasgow would serve as a strong foundation for even greater achievements at future international competitions.

Tinubu also commended the leadership of the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the National Sports Commission for their commitment to sports development.

"Whether on the podium or through courageous performances in the competition, every member of Team Nigeria has represented our nation with honour, dignity and pride," the statement read.

The President expressed appreciation to the athletes, coaches, technical officials, medical personnel, administrators and everyone whose efforts contributed to Nigeria's successful participation at the Games.

He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to investing in sports development by strengthening sporting institutions, improving training facilities and creating more opportunities for Nigerian athletes to excel on both continental and global stages.
