Ikpeme Backs Sand Eagles To Beat Ghana, Qualify For BSAFCON 2026
Ikpeme acknowledged that Nigeria’s prolonged absence from international beach soccer had affected the team’s competitive sharpness but insisted that the country remained capable of securing a place at the continental tournament.
“We have not played the game for some time in terms of international beach soccer. We have just resumed, and our last competitive match was against Mauritania in a Beach Soccer AFCON qualifying tie two years ago,” he told the NFF website.
He stressed the need for consistent training and player development, noting that beach soccer was a demanding game that required sustained preparation.
The NFF chief also pledged the federation’s support for the team, promising to ensure that the Sand Eagles receive the resources needed to improve their competitiveness and achieve their qualification target.
“I believe there is hope. During my time, I will work to ensure that we give the beach soccer national team all the necessary support,” Ikpeme added.
With the first leg ending in a draw, the Sand Eagles must now deliver a strong performance in the return fixture to keep their hopes of reaching BSAFCON 2026 alive.
