INEC Extends Deadline For Submission Of 2027 Election Candidates
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names and personal particulars of their candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections by three days.

Previously set to end on Saturday, July 11, 2026, the submission deadline has now been moved to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the extension followed a request from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC).

The council appealed on behalf of political parties that were unable to complete the upload of their candidates' details within the original timeframe.

INEC explained that the extension is intended to promote broader participation in the electoral process while remaining in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The commission urged all political parties yet to complete the process to use the additional three-day window to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates before the new deadline expires.

The extension comes as political parties wrap up their primary elections and prepare for the next stages of activities outlined in INEC's revised timetable for the 2027 general election.
