INEC Releases Official Campaign Timetable For The 2027 General Elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled the official campaign timetable for the 2027 General Elections, aligning with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.

This schedule marks an exciting step forward in Nigeria's democratic process. Campaign activities for the Presidential and National Assembly elections kick off on Tuesday, 19 August 2026, and will wrap up precisely 24 hours before voters head to the polls on 16 January 2027.

Meanwhile, the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly campaigns commence on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, concluding a day before voting on 6 February 2027.

Key rules set out in the Electoral Act 2026 ensure a fair and transparent election. Campaigns can only start 150 days before an election and must end exactly 24 hours before polling day.

Political parties, candidates, and supporters are urged to adhere strictly to these dates failure to do so may result in sanctions from INEC. This revised timetable not only complies with the new law but also replaces the earlier schedule initially proposed.

As the countdown begins, political parties and candidates are encouraged to seize this window for vibrant campaigns rallies, media outreach, voter engagement, and grassroots mobilization starting on the specified dates.

Everyone involved is urged to abide by this schedule to uphold Nigeria’s commitment to a peaceful, credible, and lawful electoral process, ensuring a celebration of democracy that all can be proud of.
