Manchester United Close In On Signing Aston Villa Midfielder Tielemans
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing of Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans as the club steps up efforts to strengthen its midfield ahead of the new season.
According to BBC Sport, negotiations between the two clubs are at an advanced stage, with Tielemans' release clause helping to simplify the transfer process.
United have endured a frustrating summer in their pursuit of midfield reinforcements after missing out on Elliot Anderson, who opted to join Manchester City, and Mateus Fernandes, who chose Tottenham Hotspur over a move to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils had also agreed a £35 million deal with Serie A side Atalanta for Brazilian midfielder Ederson, but the move has been put on hold.
Chelsea's Andrey Santos is also expected to complete a £48 million switch to United after reportedly undergoing a medical.
Manager Michael Carrick is keen to bolster his options in central midfield, with Kobbie Mainoo currently the club's only experienced orthodox midfielder available. Mainoo is also yet to feature for England at the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
Tielemans, 29, has long been admired by Manchester United and is valued for his extensive Premier League experience.
The Belgian international was instrumental in his country's run to the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup before missing their 2-1 defeat to Spain after sustaining an injury during the pre-match warm-up.
