NDDC Begins Installation of 200 Solar Street Lights at Auchi Polytechnic

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has commenced the process of installing 200 solar-powered street lights at Auchi Polytechnic as part of efforts to improve infrastructure and strengthen security within the institution.
A delegation from the Edo State Office of the NDDC paid a courtesy visit to the Polytechnic on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, ahead of the commencement of the project.
The delegation was received on behalf of the Rector, Dr. Salisu Shehu Umar, by the Deputy Rector (Administration), Engr. Dr. Edith Oyati. Also present at the meeting were the Polytechnic Bursar, Abdulazeez Umoru, FCA; the Polytechnic Librarian, Mrs. Nwadioha Nnaemeka Eunice Aromokhelen; and the Director of Public Relations Division, Dr. Mrs. Angela Egele, ANIPR.
Speaking during the meeting, the representative of the contracting firm, Tosamila Global Resources Ltd, Mr. Jonathan Ibrahim, said installation work would commence immediately to ensure the timely completion of the project for the benefit of staff, students, and other members of the Polytechnic community.
Members of the NDDC delegation stated that the intervention is designed to improve security, enhance visibility across the campus, and provide a more conducive environment for learning and work. They also encouraged the institution's management to sustain its collaboration with the Commission to attract more developmental projects and infrastructure to the Polytechnic.
Responding on behalf of the institution, Engr. Dr. Edith Oyati expressed appreciation to the NDDC for the intervention, describing it as a significant contribution to the development of the Polytechnic. She also urged the contractor to execute the project in line with approved specifications and within the agreed timeframe.
The contracting firm was represented by Mr. Jonathan Ibrahim, while the NDDC delegation included Ikpefua Mathias (Community and Rural Development), Afe Oluwabanji (UIDW), Engr. Cosmos Uguomore (Project Management Services), Hon. Inu Oshiorenua, and Festus Aisowierei.
According to information made available during the visit, the project is part of a larger NDDC intervention involving the installation of 245 solar-powered street lights, with 200 units designated for Auchi Polytechnic and the remaining 45 units for the Igbei Community.
The development is expected to enhance nighttime visibility and improve security within the Polytechnic environment upon completion.
