NFF Warns Flamingos Against Match-Fixing Ahead Of U-17 World Cup
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has warned players and officials of the Flamingos against match-fixing and betting-related corruption ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The federation’s Integrity Unit conducted a mandatory integrity briefing on Wednesday to educate members of the national U-17 women’s team on how to identify, reject and report attempts to manipulate match outcomes.
The session highlighted the methods used by match-fixers, the dangers of match manipulation and the disciplinary consequences for players and officials found guilty of involvement.
Participants were also cautioned against betting on football matches and disclosing confidential team information that could be exploited for betting-related corruption.
The briefing covered how to recognise approaches by match-fixers, available confidential reporting channels, the prohibition of betting and the penalties for violating integrity regulations.
The exercise forms part of the NFF’s broader integrity measures for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which include betting-monitoring systems, intelligence sharing with law enforcement agencies and continuous integrity support throughout the competition.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy on match manipulation, the NFF stressed the need for the Flamingos to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and protect the credibility of football.
The federation’s initiative is aimed at ensuring that players and officials remain vigilant against corrupt practices as Nigeria prepares for the global tournament.
