NSCDC Officer Killed As Suspected Illegal Miners Attack Security Team In Niger State
An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been killed after suspected illegal miners attacked a joint security patrol team during an enforcement operation in Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State.
The patrol team, made up of NSCDC personnel, police officers, local security operatives, and officials working with Millennium Metals Mining Company, was on a mission to tackle illegal mining activities when they came under attack. The assailants reportedly killed an NSCDC officer and set an operational Hilux vehicle ablaze before fleeing the scene.
The NSCDC condemned the attack, describing it as a serious assault on security personnel and Nigeria's efforts to protect its mineral resources. The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to cracking down on illegal mining and has launched a manhunt to arrest those responsible.
Authorities have also appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that will help bring the attackers to justice and curb illegal mining activities across the state.
