Okpebholo Bags NAPS Award For Commitment To Technical Education

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has been honoured by the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) for what the body described as his outstanding commitment to the development of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the state.
The award was presented at the association’s national summit on Technical and Vocational Education in recognition of the administration’s efforts to strengthen technical education and equip young people with practical skills for self-reliance and economic development.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Yakubu Musa, the governor described the award as a recognition of the deliberate investments his administration is making in education, skills acquisition and youth empowerment.
He dedicated the award to the people of Edo State, particularly young people and women, saying they remain at the heart of his administration’s development agenda.
Okpebholo said no reward in public service was greater than seeing government policies positively transform the lives of citizens.
According to him, the state government will continue to expand access to quality technical and vocational education to produce a skilled workforce capable of driving industrialisation, job creation and sustainable economic growth.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to creating opportunities that would enable young people acquire relevant skills to compete in the modern economy.
The governor said technical and vocational education remains a critical component of the state’s human capital development strategy and would continue to receive priority attention.
Presenting the award, officials of the National Association of Polytechnic Students commended the Edo State Government for its support for technical education and policies aimed at promoting skills development among young Nigerians.
The summit, themed “Repositioning Technical and Vocational Education for Nigeria’s Industrial Development,” brought together government officials, education experts, development partners and other stakeholders to discuss strategies for strengthening technical and vocational education in the country.
Earlier, Okpebholo was named Governor of the Year in Education by New Telegraph Newspapers, received the OPAL Award for Excellent Performance from the St. Maria Goretti Old Girls Association (SMAGOGA), was honoured with the Friend of Lagos Award at the Eko Mi Awards, and emerged Best Performing Governor of the Year 2026 at the Democracy Heroes Award Africa before receiving the latest Outstanding Commitment to TVET Development Award from the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS).
