Former Barcelona, Chelsea and Spain winger Pedro Rodriguez has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 39.

The decorated forward confirmed his decision in a social media video, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable career that saw him represent Barcelona, Chelsea, Roma and Lazio.

Reflecting on his time at Barcelona, Pedro described playing for the Catalan giants as an unforgettable privilege.

“Being part of the best Barça in history was a privilege; we won everything and amazed the world. My heart will always be a Barça fan,” he said, as reported by Yahoo Sports.

Pedro also thanked his former teammates, coaches, clubs, supporters, family and friends for their roles in his career.

“I feel it’s the right time. Thanks to my teammates, the best thing hasn’t been the titles, it’s been you,” he said.

“Thanks to the clubs that opened their doors to me and the coaches who trusted in me. Thanks to the fans for so much love and thanks to my children, my family, and my friends. Thank you, football, for making me so happy.”

Barcelona paid tribute to their former star, saying he would “always be part of our history” and thanking him for everything he contributed to the club and the game.

Pedro enjoyed a glittering spell at Barcelona, winning five La Liga titles, three Copa del Rey trophies and three Champions League crowns among a remarkable haul of silverware.

He made 321 appearances for the Catalan club, scoring 99 goals and winning 20 trophies during his time at Camp Nou.

His career also included a successful spell at Chelsea before later stints in Italy with Roma and Lazio.

Pedro leaves the game as one of the most decorated Spanish players of his generation, having enjoyed success at both club and international level.
