Saudi Arabia Executes Two Bangladeshis Over Alleged Indecent Act Inside Mecca Mosque
Saudi Arabia has executed two Bangladeshi nationals convicted of committing an act of indecency inside a mosque in the holy city of Makkah, following a court ruling upheld by the kingdom’s authorities.
The executed individuals were identified as Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar, according to a statement by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior, as reported by Khaleej Times.
The ministry said security authorities arrested the pair following the incident, after which investigations were conducted and formal charges filed before a competent court.
The court subsequently found them guilty and sentenced them to death, citing the gravity of the offence and the violation of the sanctity of the place and time in which it occurred.
According to the ministry, the sentences were imposed under ta’zir, a category of discretionary punishment under Islamic law. The judgments became final after being upheld by the competent authority, while a subsequent royal order authorised the executions in accordance with Sharia.
The executions were carried out in the Makkah region on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the statement added.
The ministry reiterated the Saudi government’s commitment to maintaining security, enforcing Islamic law and protecting the sanctity of mosques, warning that anyone found guilty of similar offences would face the penalties prescribed under Sharia.
