Super Falcons Demolish Comoros 5-0, Advance To Third Round Of 2028 Olympic Qualifiers
Nigeria’s Super Falcons delivered a commanding performance to thrash Comoros 5-0 in Ikenne on Tuesday, sealing their place in the third round of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic qualifiers with a convincing 7-0 aggregate victory.
Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu both scored twice, while Christy Ucheibe added a penalty as the former African champions underlined their determination to secure an Olympic berth.
The Falcons dominated proceedings from the start, with Gift Monday missing an early opportunity before Kanu struck the crossbar twice in the first half.
Nigeria suffered a setback in the 29th minute when captain Rasheedat Ajibade was forced off with an injury and replaced by Folashade Ijamilusi.
The breakthrough eventually arrived through Payne, who finished off Kanu’s assist after a costly error by Comoros goalkeeper Aicha Said.
Kanu doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 58th minute, heading home a cross from Ijamilusi before Payne made it 3-0 five minutes later, finishing off a fine assist from substitute Blessing Okpe.
Kanu completed her brace in the 66th minute with another header from Ijamilusi’s cross, before Ucheibe converted from the penalty spot in the 71st minute after Okpe was fouled inside the box.
The emphatic victory sends the Super Falcons into the next round with their confidence boosted as they continue their quest to return to the Olympic Games.
However, attention will also turn to Ajibade’s fitness following her first-half injury scare.
