Super Falcons Replace Ghana With Tanzania In Final WAFCON Warm-Up
Nigeria's Super Falcons have secured a new international friendly against Tanzania's Twiga Stars after their planned pre-2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) clash with Ghana was cancelled.
The match will serve as the Super Falcons' final preparation before the tournament kicks off in Morocco on July 26. Tanzania have also confirmed the fixture as part of their own WAFCON build-up.
The replacement friendly was confirmed by Tanzania head coach Bakari Nyundo Shime and the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), ensuring both teams get a crucial test ahead of Africa's biggest women's football tournament.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is yet to announce the kickoff time and venue details for the match.
Nigeria had initially been scheduled to face Ghana's Black Queens on July 18 in Casablanca, but the encounter was called off after the Super Falcons were unable to assemble a full squad in time.
Several overseas-based players reported late to camp because their clubs were only required by FIFA regulations to release them six days before the start of the tournament.
The delayed arrivals left head coach Justine Madugu with too few players to stage a competitive fixture, prompting the cancellation.
The Tanzania friendly now gives Madugu one final opportunity to assess his squad and fine-tune tactics before the Super Falcons begin their quest for another WAFCON title.
