Ter Stegen Joins Arokodare At Ajax On Loan From Barcelona
Ajax have completed the signing of German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen from Barcelona on a season-long loan deal, making him a teammate of Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare.
Arokodare, who also recently joined the Dutch champions on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, has already made an impressive start to life in Amsterdam, scoring on his debut in Ajax's 3-1 pre-season victory over FC Volendam on Sunday.
Ter Stegen, a 44-cap Germany international, spent the second half of last season on loan at Girona under coach Míchel Sánchez before sealing his temporary switch to Ajax.
Ajax Technical Director Jordi Cruijff welcomed the experienced goalkeeper, describing him as a major addition to the squad.
"Marc has an outstanding track record, and his qualities are widely recognised. He is an immediate addition to our squad. Marc and I know each other well, and I'm looking forward to working with him again.
We have been working on bringing him here for quite some time, so we're very pleased that he has signed his contract and can now get started," Cruijff said.
Born in Mönchengladbach on April 30, 1992, Ter Stegen began his professional career with Borussia Mönchengladbach, making 127 appearances before joining Barcelona in 2014.
During his time at the Catalan club, the veteran goalkeeper has played 423 matches and won several major honours, including the UEFA Champions League and seven La Liga titles.
His arrival is expected to strengthen Ajax's squad as the Dutch side prepares for the new season, with Ter Stegen and Arokodare among the club's key additions.
