Viral Lagos-Benin Stop-And-Search Video Lands Four Police Officers In Trouble

The Nigeria Police Force has launched disciplinary proceedings against four officers after a viral video showed a stop-and-search team on the Lagos-Benin Expressway allegedly acting unprofessionally and making derogatory ethnic remarks toward a member of the public.

The officers—one Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and three Inspectors—have been identified and taken into custody pending an orderly room trial.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered the Ondo State Commissioner of Police to conduct a comprehensive and transparent investigation to determine each officer's level of involvement and ensure appropriate disciplinary action is taken.

The Police said the behavior seen in the video does not reflect the values of the Force, emphasizing that ethnic profiling, intimidation, and disrespect for citizens will not be tolerated.

The Force also reiterated its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and fair policing while working to strengthen public confidence.
