Yamal Admits Osimhen’s Disallowed Goal Could Have Made Barcelona’s Job Tougher
Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has admitted that Victor Osimhen’s disallowed goal could have made life much more difficult for the Spanish giants in their UEFA Champions League clash against Galatasaray.
Osimhen appeared to double Galatasaray’s advantage with a powerful header from a corner at RAMS Park in Istanbul, only for the goal to be ruled out following a VAR review.
Barcelona eventually recovered to secure a convincing 4-1 victory, but Yamal acknowledged that allowing the Nigerian striker’s effort to stand would have significantly complicated their task.
“If Galatasaray's second goal hadn't been disallowed, our job in Istanbul would have been very tough!” the teenage forward said, according to Le Marca Sports.
Yamal also praised Galatasaray and admitted that playing at RAMS Park was a difficult experience, citing the intimidating atmosphere created by the home supporters.
“We knew we were going to play in a really tough stadium. This is one of the hardest places we could play away. Galatasaray is a quality team,” he added.
The result strengthened Barcelona’s position in the Champions League standings, with the Catalan club moving to six points from their opening two matches.
For Galatasaray, however, the defeat compounded a difficult start to their European campaign, leaving them without a point after successive losses to Sporting CP and Barcelona.
Osimhen and his teammates will now be under pressure to revive their Champions League campaign as they seek to recover from the disappointing opening results.
