Oba of Benin Declares 14-Day Fasting and Prayer Across Edo
The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Omo N' Oba N' Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Ewuare II, has declared a 14-day fasting and prayer for all sons and daughters of Benin Kingdom, including those living in Edo State.
The exercise will run from Monday, September 14 to Sunday, September 27, 2026, with fasting observed daily from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
According to a statement by the Benin Traditional Council signed by Chief Osaigbovo Iguobaro, Chief Press Secretary to the Oba, the directive is in line with the ancient Benin tradition that precedes the consumption of the new yam, known as Emorho.
The palace said the prayers are to seek the intervention of God Almighty and the Royal Ancestors for peace and tranquility, and to seek divine protection for families, Edo State and Nigeria from death and evil.
The Oba urged all Benin sons and daughters at home and in the Diaspora to observe the spiritual exercise and prayed for peace and happiness across the land.
